A pair of college dropouts are Silicon Valley’s wealthiest residents, according to Forbes magazine.
With a net worth of $33 billion, Oracle CEO and college dropout Larry Ellison is the third-wealthiest American and the richest man in Silicon Valley, according to Forbes’ 400 list.
Ellison, 67, lives in Woodside, California, and ranked behind only Microsoft Corp. CEO Bill Gates and Warren Buffett respectively on the list.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest of the top 20 richest Americans and the second wealthiest Silicon Valley resident. With a net worth of $17.5 billion, the 27-year-old Harvard University dropout lives in a $7 million home in Palo Alto. His Forbes rank was No. 14.
Google Inc. co-founders Larry Page, who also serves as CEO, and Sergey Brin tied for No. 15 with a net worth of $16.7 billion. The 38-year-olds live Palo Alto and Los Altos, respectively.
Iconic Apple CEO Steve Jobs, also a Palo Alto resident and another college dropout, is worth about $7 billion. Jobs, 56, also is Disney’s largest individual shareholder, and ranked No. 39 on the list.
While he doesn't live in the Valley any more, eBay co-founder and Hawaii resident Pierre Omidyar is tied at No. 50 with Google Chairman Eric Schmidt of Atherton at $6.2 billion.
Coming in at No. 91 tied with $3.5 billion in net worth are Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz, who lives in San Francisco, and investment executive Charles Schwab of Atherton.
Those are the local names in the top 100 of Forbes' list.
