Santa Clara is located in Santa Clara County, with over 125,000 residents, making it the ninth most populated city in the San Francisco Bay area. It is on the southern coast of San Francisco Bay, about 45 miles southeast of San Francisco and west of San Jose.
Santa Clara is one of California's best places to live for young professionals. This shouldn't be a surprise since Silicon Valley and the Bay Area are so close and have many educational and job opportunities. People love living in Santa Clara because crime rates are much lower there than in the rest of the country, and an analysis of national health statistics shows that the city is also one of the healthiest places to live.
Santa Clara is in the middle of Silicon Valley. It is home to many high-tech companies like Intel and the oldest college or university in the state, Santa Clara University. It all started in 1777, when the eighth of California's 21 missions, Mission Santa Clara de Asis, was built. It became a business in 1852 and has grown since then. Applied Materials, Intel, AMD, California's Great America, and the city of Santa Clara are still some of the biggest employers in the area.
Santa Clara gets high marks from people who live there and those who move to and from the area. It's ranked as the 16th-best city in America for young professionals. People have said that it's suitable for families, has great diversity and nightlife, and has less crime.
The Santa Clara Unified School District runs the city of Santa Clara. It also serves small parts of Sunnyvale and North San Jose. It has 19 schools for kindergarten through eighth grade. Many schools are named after farmers, ranchers, and other people who used to live in Santa Clara. Santa Clara also has several private elementary and high schools, such as the Live Oak Academy, St. Justin School, and Santa Clara Christian School, to name a few. There are several places to get a higher education. These include the Jesuit college Santa Clara University, the junior college Mission College, and the Golden State Baptist College.
